I tend to agree. Especially in terms of sodium and fat contents. When I worked for Kaiser Permanente in the 2000’s we had “lunch contests.” Sodium, fats, fillers and preservatives were weighed.
I think it suggests that salt intake has an impact. I don't add sugar to anything, btw. Almost, if not every, recipe l use suggests adding 'salt & pepper to taste'. I just avoid, even on my recently cooked beef rendang, salt as much as possible (it was quite delightful, btw):
