Weaning Asia off carbon will require some $26trn-37trn in investment between now and 2050, estimates the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change

Save time by listening to our audio articles as you multitaskThe power cut that plunged her building into darkness on October 4th did the same to most of Bangladesh: four-fifths of the country’s 165m people lost electricity for seven hours. Factories ground to a halt. Pumps in tenements ceased to work, depriving residents of water. The grid failure was an extreme symptom of an electricity shortage caused by geopolitics.

It is a formidable challenge. Energy demand for the ten members of the Association of South-East Asian Nations is projected to increase by about a third of the’s current total by 2050. India alone will probably need additional capacity equivalent to that of today’sby 2040. Ideally, much of that extra demand will be met by renewables. Yet fossil fuels continue to dominate the energy mix across the region . Their dominance is entrenched through subsidies or political favouritism.

As for new sources of energy, hopes are rising for “green” hydrogen—made from splitting water using renewable energy. Hydrogen is abundant, clean and energy-dense, but both the technology and the infrastructure are untested at scale. Plans are nevertheless ambitious.

Is your general premise of this event that China will not lie about people dying, and not that no matter how many do die as a direct result of this it will be declared a success?

Toujours pragmatique les asiats.

Take this immoral weasely centrist take and shove it somewhere warm economist. Nuclear energy is dangerous at scale. Solar, hydro and wind work effectively if you combine them with a drastic reduction in the unsustainable consumerism. Unfollowed.

There, you said it. Was it so hard?

Shilling for nuclear power , what a surprise ?

Enerji konusunu Avrupa düşünmeli bence. Bu kış onlar için çok soğuk geçecek;)))

Who pays from the “rich countries”? The poor..

Nations that have developed beyond the necessity of using oxidation by burning the world down owe it to themselves and the rest of the world to use that and to spread the technology that allows us to abandon fire as the source of energy to the entire world And, sure, pay for it

It’s a stupid plan. How can you allow other countries to dictate your energy security? 🚮

Paywall. But that would be some trick. Asia burns about 3/4 of the worlds coal. Carbon capture ?

Can someone please explain how we get to netzero when humans exhale carbon and plants need it to survive? greenwashing

The “green” energy push by European politicians will prove to be disastrous for all Europeans.

Everyone keep talking about your diligence and honesty and I must say that you are very transparent in your mood of operation and promises, thank you MLisatownsend for transforming my life financially.

“the construction of new coal plants in the region must slow” It will. Right after they finish building their 100 new nuclear power plants.

Dream on!!!!

War in Ukraine acting as demotivating factor for fastest shift from coal fired energy source to alternate sources of clean energy….

Why would they slow them whilst the world is facing an energy crisis initiated by nonsensical green policies.

U tell France and Germany that breaking away from coal is a priority first 🥹🥹🥹

Go oil! Buy more gas guzzling SUVs, fuck these climate change scammers. These green energy policies will only kill millions of people.

The global inflation is in 00

Is this a parody account?

Has The Economist heard about electrical load-shedding in South Africa?

I always think America is advanced in everything, but obviously not in camera, many pictures about Asia is not colorful, always.

Pretty chill $ amount

Yawn

But since his suicide, biographers and friends alike have looked for clues As someone who has clinical depression, no one else understands what's going through your head He introduced dark side of politics and regimes in many countries through Food, he almost sacrificed himself to save humanity and opened heart and minds I’m only on page 21 and I’ve already seen Asia Argento spelled “Argeto” on the opening page and Jose Andres spelled “Andre” on page 19. Sloppy.
