BBC One’s flagship debate show was once serious and slightly boring. How we long for those more sedate times

In ye olden days of Question Time, the BBC’s flagship political debate programme, the set-up was pretty staid. Politicians sporting a fetching array of combovers would be lined up to answer questions put to them by a studio audience. It was generally illuminating, and fulfilled the Reithian pledge to inform and educate, if not quite entertain. As the big political stories were discussed and disagreements hashed out, the vibe was serious but rarely belligerent.

It's not even about left or right, but the use of inexpert panelists simply chosen for being celebrities to get more views.

Chakrobati trying to look contrite and innocent when LAURENCE Fox sussed her out. She’s a snake and a terrorist sympathiser.

Agree it has become propaganda for one side or other with impatient audience and more so panels my addiction for QT is cured ,no need.

And pus...add some pus

Oh do piss off

Thought it was a fairly lively debate . Although The MeghanAndHarry question went on a bit . Of course , the locations play a part in the discussion too . Birmingham stokenewington bbcquestiontime

Time to bin it. It's garbage.

irrespective of politics, one of the things making bbcqt a torrent of shit is the increase in size of the panel from 4 to 5. more panellists = less time for each to discuss = less likelihood of seriously discussing a topic Don't watch it anymore, and life is better for it.

john3ners Genuine question, was it ever not?

Too many of your readers on the show, thats why its shit. Both Audience and Panelists.

They’ve used Fox, and no doubt he will have a breakdown. The new Jeremy Kyle Show

I haven't watched it since the first week Bruce took over. The bullying & general nastiness from the audience & panel has taken a turn for the worse. Bit like society in general.

Funny how The Guardian say that after an edition where their leftie woke views have been challenged don’t you think ?

I feel personally attacked 😂 I am white but not sure I qualify for any of those other accolades

I totally agree. Especially when the Left-Whingers and the FBPE crowd are on there.

Question Time has become boring, sleep-inducing with its motley selection of unremarkable (predictable) guests, politicians and others, on its panel. Some bite and controversial guests might be an improvement!

'his people being white, wealthy, whiny public school-educated members of acting dynasties whose surnames automatically open doors' Bigoted article, bigoted writer (Fiona Sturges) published by a bigoted editor (KathViner) in a bigoted Oxbridge rag mag laurencefox

The look on Shami Chakrabarti's face tells you all you need to kow about Mr Fox and his views.

This programme has become a big snooze in the last five years, and viewers can predict the narrow and unexciting responses from most participants before they speak. Rather like with the guardian. Needs Fox (right or wrong), to shake it up!🤔KathViner bbcqt RLong_Bailey

Oh my god, yes.

Not watching when it became an endless left wing and Remoaner love in. How can BBC say not bias when the panel is lefty comedian, NGO ( previous Labour employee) , Labour and Lib Dem plus audience stuffed full of supporters, but its not a stitch up. Propaganda by other means.

The based fox 🦊

Could say the same thing about the Guardian.

By ‘bile’, are you referring to the audience member being lazy and racist, or the panellist for defending himself?

The audience is not that bad Is it....

I haven’t watched it for years, since it became The Nigel Farage Show. It seems to have become a platform for white supremacists and other far-right factions to spout their bile. I’m out.

being That's not a good thing btw.

I thought LozzaFox was brilliant. The look on Shami's face was priceless.

You throw a wobbler when it’s not some lefty love in with panel members that all have the same opinion. Ok 👌

Long past it's sell by date, it's not fit for purpose anymore, time it was axed.

Some truth seems to be hurting the woke morons.

LozzaFox was brilliant on bbcquestiontime , a breath of fresh air. We need to hear voices from all areas and all political views.

I'm sorry but as part of the Main Stream Media, The Guardian are also a large part of the issue. While The Daily Mail occupies the right wing rag section of the market, you occupy the left. You're as much 'click bait' as the BBC.

The Guardian didn't like Lawrence did it not?

This was deliberate on the part of the BBC. They wanted it to be bilious to boost ratings. They packed the audience with people who were not representative of normal society, especially over Brexit. Where were the pro-EU MEP's on the panel? Not ONE invited on.

Nish Kumar, Benjamin Zephaniah, Francesca Martinez, Jarvis Cocker, Shappi Korsandi, Akala, Terry Christian, Richard Bacon, Rob Delaney, Ken Loach, Afua Hirsch, Brian Cox, Heydon Prowse, etc, etc,...…..

chami was less scary than usual. What's going on with that?

If it was up to the BBC ,if Pedo Jimmy Savile was still alive,'they'd have him on the panel

Ugh.

It's always been a festival of bile. Left-wing, remoaner bile. Laurence Fox was a breath of fresh air.

Rename it Gammon Time to more accurately depict its premise.

Laurence Fox says ‘wokeists’ are ‘racist’ after Question Time clashActor was criticised for his comments about white privilege last week '1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race' People saying 'You're a white male therefore...' would tend to make LozzaFox correct! We need to get back to a point where people value expert opinion over the uneducated. Laurence Fox is not an expert in receiving racism so he is unskilled in detecting it. He is entitled to have an opinion. It represents his truth. If you want the real truth then ask experts He's not wrong.
