For years now, there's been an ongoing debate about whether or not there's space for queer relationships on, the excuse for keeping the format both entirely straight, and starkly divided along gendered lines, is the idea that queerness offers a kind ofBut the latest entry into the"attractive people finding love in lavish villas" genre of reality TV has shown not only how hollow these kind of excuses are in 2022, but the kind of impact that opening shows up to queer people can...

And this is where the alleged"logistical difficulties" that make queerness an impossibility might rear their head, but in the end, this doesn't happen at all. Instead, things naturally take their course, and contestants will simply get to know people who they're attracted to. as a show approaches the idea of queerness: that, difficult as it might be for some shows to wrap their heads around, some people are queer.to challenge one of the other major issues that these kind of dating shows have to face: the extent to which so much of the drama is gendered, and exists in a stark male/female binary.

Seeing men and women on the show interacting beyond"getting to know" each other shines a light on just how limiting shows like this become when they make friendship an impossibility, when the expectation of men and women talking to each other is always the graft, always the possibility of romance.
