How I Made It: 'I'm 70 and still working as a handywoman'

Sylvia is a handywoman for TaskRabbit, but what makes her unique is that not only is she a woman, but she’s still building things at the age of 70.

As Sylvia puts it, she wasn’t ready to give up work and ‘sit on a park bench all day’, but she wasn’t looking for a nine to five. Not usually – most of my clients are women and they are usually so pleased to have found a handywoman for the job.However, it is extremely useful to have colleagues who are there to help.

10.30am: Tea in hand, work begins. It can range from taking down old light fixtures, preparing new fittings to be put up, checking the wiring for safety, or fitting designer ceiling roses, which can be tricky.1pm: Usually the workday finishes here, as Sylvia only likes to do a few hours a day.
