How Babylon 5 went from space opera to space junk

Babylon 5 was a show that should never have been commissioned. Five seasons of the United Nations set in space, anyone? Well, set your phasers to stunned because while Star Trek gets all the glory – what with its big-name actors, great special effects and lasting cultural cachet – it was Babylon 5 that became every true sci-fi fan’s secret favourite.

I'm a recent convert and have steadfastly refused to watch season 5 (bar the final episode) because of all the terrible things I've heard. Without it, B5 is an absolute masterpiece, so why ruin a good thing?

You mention it in your article, but originally the B5 was planned for 5 years, by its author. When on 4th season it was 'cancelled', loose ends had to be tied. Then, when renewed for the 5th season, the loose ends were already tied, so something else had to be done.. blameStudio

Well It looks like garaboldy came to the mountains, he needed rehab, LOL.

Ironically DS9 started taking the best aspects from B5 and improved.

The Guardian has angered me (and a whole lot of B5 fans around the world) ... who else was at Worldcon 99 when JMS played us the finale and we walked out weeping to Don’t Dream It’s Over? GOOD TIMES

Yeah, the 5th season wasnt that great (I never liked Cmdr Lockley that much) but garbage You went a little too far.
