Hong Kong protests flare ahead of face mask ban

Some demonstrators vandalised businesses, blocked roads and set fires while police fired tear gas

The ban comes after an escalation of violence during protests on 1 October, when an officer shot a demonstrator.Many left work early to join the spontaneous demonstrations. Some furious protesters blocked roads, torched Chinese flags and vandalised stations and businesses, as police fired rounds of tear gas.

This protest movement began in opposition to a now withdrawn extradition bill. Today's passing of the emergency law did not need to go through the legislative body. The announcement has also prompted reaction from further afield, with Marta Hurtado, the United Nations human rights spokeswoman, noting at a news conference in Geneva that"any restriction must have a basis in law and be proportionate and as least intrusive as possible".

Ms Lam said"violence had been escalating to alarming levels" leading to a situation of"chaos and panic" in the city.The legislation invoked by Ms Lam, called the Emergency Regulations Ordinance, dates to 1922 and has not been used in more than 50 years. seen the movie “The Purge”? When people got their face covered their inside darkness released and more likely do bad things. I don’t see anything wrong with this law. It helps ease violence, make the protest more peaceful and clear. Only the people with illegal purpose hate this.

Which country allow face masked protest and violence? Which country allow the protesters attack police? Which country allow protester block airport, road, train , stop commuters and damage stores? I am so disappointed If this is the real democracy- Animal on free-land?

This so call “emergency law” stemmed from the absolute power of the government. Rule of law is dead in Hong Kong. By the way, if people don’t mind illegal assembly (up to 5 year imprisonment), why fear this (up to 1 year)?

Please stop calling these hooligans “protestors”. It’s not even clear anymore what they want other than to get high on an orgy of violence.
