Home Office staff have reportedly been advised to be careful about their use of pronouns when addressing colleagues, and avoid the use of words such as 'homosexuality' and “mate”.

Staff at the department’s homeland security group, which is responsible for counter-terrorism, were given a presentation that advised them on how to address people’s gender identities.

Others didn't conform to these pronouns, and used “neopronouns” such as “ey”, or “zie”, staff were told., had been used as part of an internal event in the department and was not official government guidance.

They were also advised not to refer to a person as “homosexual” or use the word “homosexuality”, as it was “generally considered a medical term now” and could “reduce the person to purely sexual terms”.Other terms staff were told not to use included butch, femme, transsexual, sex change, pre-operative and post-operative.

It also said staff should avoid “anything that implies being LGBT+ is a choice”, for example “sexual preference” or “gay lifestyle”, or “anything that implies bi people are ‘greedy,’ ‘undecided’ or ‘going through a phase’ ”.

Seems they are more concerned about offending maybe one person that providing a good and efficient service to the public.

That’s the home office for you. I would check with the boss😳

This how words such f''k and C''t became ' vulgar '. No words should be obstructed from use. It's pure snobbery and conformity.

I sometimes wonder if these stories are made-up It is reported says but where's the evidence for that? Who reported it & why? For all we know there's a person who sits in the LBC office inventing these stories just so we can all shake our heads in disbelief at the nonsense

Then someone has grabbed the wrong end of the 'inclusivity banner'

What do you use instead? How about society realises that you can only be offended if you have made a considered choice to be. So just use logic and choose not to find it offensive thus wearing impenetrable armour.

Everyone knows when you enter a team meeting at Home Office you start with a normal PC greeting of 'sup fellow HO's!'

Must be so hard to not use the c word when addressing the home secretary.

Just tell them to be themselves but don't argue against a policy then walk through a lobby to vote for it just because a whip said so. Have some conviction.

Strange, as far as I'm aware my daughter, who works for the home office, hasn't had the memo. Looks like another 'look over there' article. Bet the media is a bit stuffed now the Meghan and Harry hype has finally died doen

The Home Office needs to concentrate on real problems especially with the current issues with policing at this moment of time especially since the case of Met police officer David Carrick who admitted 48 counts of sexual assaults against 12 different women.

No man or no woman

Utter bullshit

Nonsense

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Lol. As if the Home Office doesn't have bigger things to worry about right now. Pathetic.

FFS 🤦🏼‍♂️

🤣🤣🤣 guess they weren't mates.

I'd like to meet whoever presented this. All those words and phrases are in our language, this twunt is not in a position to tell anyone what words they shouldn't use. They may as well have told everyone that speaking was no longer acceptable.

Only advice. Dont fret. Address people how they want to be addressed, out of decency but you're not obliged to. Again, advised. The right wing echochamber snowflakes are in a pickle over this. Oh dear.

English language is getting far too complicated these days...and what for? Is it really all worth it? I mean, who starts all of this, what's happened to common sense, why is everyone so offended these days? give it 2 months & it will all change again....Can't keep up with it all.

Who’s upset for others now.
