Hollyoaks 'axes 20 cast members' in huge shake-up of Channel 4 soap

Hollyoaks has allegedly axed 20 cast members in a huge shake-up. The hit E4 soap is undergoing some major changes, with many stars set to exit the show in the coming months.

These changes will kickstart the new Hollyoaks era, which will see the soap jump forward by a whole year. Bosses have since announced a number of cuts across the soap, which includes several character exits. “In the past, Hollyoaks has seen shock stunts claim up to five lives in a single episode. But the days of soaps having a big cast clear-out with a devastating stunt are long gone, especially on Hollyoaks where the budget has been dramatically cut. The necessary death toll would make almost any stunt idea totally unbelievable.”

Executive Producer Hannah Cheers revealed characters would be leaving sooner than expected in an update about future plans for Hollyoaks. She said: "When we started talking about the move to three episodes a week, we realised we needed a mechanism through which to transition our stories and characters and we kept coming back to this one.
