Gavin Plumb, who harboured a two-year fantasy about abducting Holly Willoughby , insisted he "wanted the real thing", Chelmsford Crown Court was told.
Despite denying the charges, Gavin is said to have detailed his disturbing intentions to kidnap, assault, and kill Holly to an undercover American officer, David Nelson, online. Under the alias BigBear, Gavin allegedly disclosed: "I know when she does and don't have security and that she doesn't have CCTV at home - what time she gets up in the morning."
The jury then heard voice messages sent to an acquaintance named Marc, where the defendant discussed his sinister plans, including using chloroform for abduction. In April 2022, he ominously purchased 400 metal cable ties from Amazon and by June, shared a sinister image of a "dungeon type room" with an accomplice named Marc. Marc's response was equally disturbing, suggesting that "her screams could not be heard for miles".
When confronted by a police officer from the Owatonna Police Department in Minnesota, who had been communicating with him undercover, Gavin admitted he was "definitely serious" about his intentions. His arrest on October 4 followed swiftly after the US officer informed the Met Police.
