HOLIDAYMAKERS desperate to fly off for their summer break were given a shred of hope yesterday when Unite workers at Heathrow postponed a strike scheduled for today.

In spite of the announcement hopeful passengers were furious at being left in limbo. Up to 88,000 faced chaos over planned action by engineers, firefighters and security guards at Heathrow.Heathrow had cancelled 177 flights affecting about 30,000 people on 91 airlines – including BA – ahead of the action. But it did not announce publicly which routes had been affected. It had advised each airline on the number of flights it needed to cancel – but it was the airlines’ decision which ones to cut.
