The family of a great grandfather who died after being knocked off his mobility scooter in Atherton have said he was 'much-loved' in a heartfelt tribute to him.
He became 'unseated' from the scooter and was knocked to the ground. Tragically, he died in hospital later that night.The driver of the car - a 30-year-old woman - was arrested on the scene. She tested positive for having drugs in her system on the roadside, Greater Manchester Police said, and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and driving a vehicle whilst under the influence of a specified drug.
His family said: "On Friday 12 April 2024 on Flapper Fold Lane, Atherton a serious road traffic collision occurred. Our father Joe Shaw was injured in the collision and was taken to hospital where he sadly died surrounded by his family. "Joe died surrounded by his loved ones and will be sadly missed. He is now back with his beloved Rita.."
