As the public and governments grapple with understanding Covid-19 and how to curb its spread, sales of hand sanitiser gel have soared. In the UK, some supermarkets have already run out and Boots is rationing purchases to two bottles a customer. But is hand gel really effective against coronavirus? And, if so, should we be making our own if it is not available in the shops or online?
As we don't carry handwashing facilities with us wherever we go, surely we use hand sanitizer often and wash our hands when we can?

It's not about which one is more effective, it is not always possible to have access to facilities to wash your hands like a shop for instance, in that case gel will do. Gel is not a novelty, it's widely used in hospitals an Dr Surgeries up and Dow the country.

Of course it's proper hand washing with soap and water. Hand sanitiser is for emergencies, -when soap and water not available. If you are doing hand sanitiser, then get one with high alcohol content above 60%

I’ve tried to carry around a large porcelain hand basin, taps, large gravity fed water tank and soap dispenser but eventually I decided that a 150 ml bottle of alcohol based gel was more convenient.
