There is currently no screening programme for prostate cancer in the UK. Experts have hailed the new £42m project as 'a pivotal moment', saying that as well as saving lives in the UK, the trial could also 'change practice globally'.

Despite the fact that an estimated 12,000 lives a year are lost to prostate cancer, according to Cancer Research UK, there is currently no screening programme.
