Museum’s deputy director had told Unesco meeting contested treasures ‘were not all hacked’ from Greek temple

Demonstrators hold lit candles in front of the Acropolis museum in Athens to demand the return of the Parthenon sculptures.Responding to Williams’ claims, the renowned classical archaeologist, Anthony Snodgrass, said there was no question that Lusieri’s first target – metopes on the southern side of the Parthenon – had been “violently detached” and invoked the horrified accounts of travellers who had witnessed what he described as “irreparable damage” inflicted on the building.

Better on display free for everyone than in some private collections

Ah the British Museum…. The worlds largest receiver of stolen goods… there would be very little left if they returned everything pilfered from subjugated populations. Maybe it will just require time for this realisation to sink in…

I think these marbles should be returned.
