Google in $5bn lawsuit for tracking users in 'private' mode

Incognito mode within Google's Chrome browser gives users the choice to search the internet without their activity being saved to the browser or device. But the websites visited can use tools such as Google Analytics to track usage.

Vigorously denying the claims Google spokesman Jose Castaneda said:"As we clearly state each time you open a new incognito tab, websites might be able to collect information about your browsing activity". While private browsing has been available from Google for some time, Boies Schiller Flexner said it recently decided to represent three plaintiffs based in the US.

BBCWorld Now that is dirty! 😡

Wow, so incognito is not truly private after all?

BBCWorld Why is necessay to be in private mode then if there’s no privacy securities?! Horrific.....😡

People still think they can use Google software and have some privacy. The only way out is to cut Googles access to your data. I suggest looking into , they have android OS which doesn't send any data to Google.

BBCWorld That’s why I am always reluctant to share personal information to Google. Nothing is reliable

BBCWorld I knew it

BBCWorld Why deceive end-users despite an expressed agreement ? Google got minds with business but no ethics.

BBCWorld Finally!!!

Incognito is about the browser on the device not collecting information. Websites visited tracking information is a different story. This should be thrown out of court. It smells of greedy lawyers and plaintiffs looking for easy money.

sundarpichai Is there also any lawsuit against Google & YouTube for promoting child labour through YouTube channels? 😅 Google is one of the most unethical companies on the planet!

Can people just not read? I'm no fan of Google but they are totally up front about this exact thing when you open an incognito browser window.

BBCWorld Cool I want in

BBCWorld Private mode is only a temporary 'Ctrl+Shift+Delete'.

I bet the users will never know Google tracked and I bet the users will see non of that 5b
