Now tech giants Google and Facebook may be forced to pay British newspapers for their stories

Platforms will be encouraged to negotiate payment deals with news organisations. If negotiations fail, an independent arbitrator would set a fair price.

Move comes amid concerns that tech companies are dominating online advertising. New regime will be regulated by Digital Markets Unit , a digital watchdog
