Glenroe actor Emmet Bergin has died suddenly.

The star - best known for playing businessman Dick Moran in the Irish drama - passed away on Friday March 15 surrounded by his loved ones.In a statement to RTÉ, his daughter Tara said: 'Sadly, dad died on Friday morning at home. It was unexpected.

'We thought and hoped he would be okay. We were all at home when it happened – my mum Sarah, my brother Gavan, and me. He was such an important presence in our lives. He will be greatly missed.'Glenroe was broadcast, generally from September to May, each Sunday night at 8:30 pm. Paying tribute to his sibling he said: 'Sharing the sad passing of our brother Emmet who was an inspiration and a great man. Love you Emmet. RIP.'
