The former WBU Lightweight champion's condition had been described as 'critical' and came just hours before he was due to take part in a public workout in Glasgow as he was set to come out of retirement for the third time to take on Joe Laws at the Emirates Arena on May 3 in a headline bout.
It has now been revealed the fighter passed away. St Andrews Boxing club posted on Facebook : "Everyone at St Andrew’s Sporting Club are shocked and deeply saddened at the loss of our friend, Willie Limond.READ MORE: Search launched after son of Glasgow gangster Jamie Daniel goes missing from prison "Willie was not only a legend of the sport, but an infectious character who will be greatly missed by us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jake, Drew, Macy and the rest of the Limond family at this time."
Limond enjoyed a highly successful career, winning 42 of his 48 fights, with 13 of those victories coming with a knockout. He won the EBU European Union super featherweight title, the Commonwealth lightweight and super-lightweight titles, and the British super-lightweight title during his career.
