A mum who survived a horror crash which killed her three-year-old daughter said she wishes she had "died too".
Moments later Beth regained consciousness to find herself on the hard shoulder. As she climbed out of her car she saw a group of people gathered around Faye's body and knew instantly that her beautiful little girl was dead. PC Rachel Carberry, of Lancashire Constabulary's collision investigation unit, said that when Mr Unsworth reached the end of the entry slip road he indicated before turning to face oncoming traffic and accelerated for nine seconds until the impact with Beth's car. "It was a clear and obvious turn in the wrong direction," PC Carberry said.
During a post mortem Home Office pathologist Dr Alison Armour found that Mr Unsworth, who had been fitted with a pacemaker around 10 years ago, had "severe narrowing" of a coronary artery. Dr Armour also found evidence that Mr Unsworth had suffered an acute myocardial thrombus - bleeding - although she was unable to determine if this had happened before or after the collision.
After the inquest Faye's mum Beth described how her life had been "torn apart" by her little girl's death. Beth said that when people tell her that she had been lucky to survive she "wishes she'd died too" so she wouldn't have to live with the heartbreak of having lost her daughter.
