Hyke is a premium gin but it is made from leftover grapes that are destined to become food waste.
When grapes are cut and trimmed to fit a punnet there are lots of loose grapes and tiny bunches that otherwise get thrown away. Each year, they hope to take 1.4 million punnets of grapes that are surplus to requirements and produce the spirit.iquorice, aniseed, cumin, rooibos, myrrh, lemon zest, bay leaf, nigella seed and cardamom.
According to the makers, it has it is ‘rich, sweet citrus characters lead, followed by velvet-textured spice and complex aromatics.’As well as cutting down on food waste, every element of the bottle is made from recyclable material.
