I could swear the concept is older than that. Apparently not.
54 year old trainee counsellor. I love my job and it’s very hard work!
Only if you convince yourself of it. Otherwise, you begin seeing new horizons, new possibilities.
53
Not now, Guardian ffs
At age 40..the rest of the world starts listening to a 'go getter'..by 50 they start ignoring that same person. By 60, most people aren't acknowledged as being 'relevant' anymore. Somewhere around halfway thru the 50's ..most folks stop trying to 'change the world'.
nope
Let's hope not I'll let us know
Every year is better than the next.
Never💪
Honestly I never wanna stop doing something or anything....... like there is nothing like retirement unless you want to
I’m just finding mine and I’m 53!
Totally. I just can't be arsed anymore - 55.
Oh how awful
No
Pretty much.
Damn must have missed this! Still have a passion at. 78
This year,yes.
I would say 65 as the point of losing the passion for life
I’d given up by puberty.
Ah, that explains why it's been such a tough year. (And there I was blaming the pandemic and politics.) Looking forward to moving into the sunny uplands of 55 in December.
No.
Answer: no. We just go about our passion with softer steps.
54 Rubbish, 69 and still passionate about life. Stay Safe🙏🏿Stay Well🙏🏿 Love Living🙏🏿😘😎
The opposite I should say.
I'm 29 and I lost it already
No
And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. Deuteronomy 34.
What pile of shit
As I turned 54 in 2020 it’s hardly surprising
Something seems to have happened this year which has severely affected my motivation and passion for life. I haven't yet worked out what may have caused this.
Nah, I lost my passion for life right around the time the Tories last got elected
Subtract 30 years from that
On turning 54(ish) people probably realise that the important things in life simply need dedication and compassion. Grit and ambition means hurting others on your way up.
I'm 54, its 2020! If I got up where could I go? r4today Guardian coronavirus
This is edadism
It's when I see these kind of plastic balloons for celebrating anniversaries, that I lose passion for life.
I think passion has been tempered by pragmatism.
I lost my passion in life earlier than 54.
We lose passion for reading papers once called serious like this.
Not giving a f*** is brilliant, you should all try it.
That's not even wat the study which is cited here, says. Just that for the age group 53y, the researchers did not find a correlation between 'passion and 'grit' (endurance). And it's just one study. You can't even exclude the possibility of the finding being just a coincidence:.
Well something took a nose dive in mid 50’s & it’s proving very difficult to shake lose! & don’t get me started on the effects of menopause, brain in a constant fog, can’t sleep at night, up at the crack of dawn feeling like I’ve done a shift down pit & pissin every 5 minutes ffs
For me it was 10
Approaching 50s and I am 😟 worried.
I’m 64 and still loving life in the fast lane
That’s when people begin to realize that they’ve spent what will be at least half their lives pursuing things that have no value, and most importantly haven’t bothered to really get to know themselves, so can’t envision how to proceed from that disillusionment. Temet nosce!
I read the study (link in the story) and what it actually says is that for 900ish people in the study, those over 54 exhibited a lesser correlation between ‘passion’ and ‘grit’ than those in the younger demographics. Not that over 54 you lose passion or grit.
no
I’m old and just discovered BTS. Couldn’t be happier
Can you please stop with this ageist crap?
I’m 60 and still living life to the full. It’s only a number.
tl:dr
Stop looking to put people in boxes. That’s my advice for you, .
I turned 54 in 2016, the year of the Brexit vote, so who knows whether it was my age or the referendum result that took away my passion for life?
Ah bugger. Can't be bothered to read this.
Not by a long shot! I turned 70 this year and am still raring to go - of course, there’s COVID and a lack of similarly interested age mates. But still....😆
No worries my friends😎 if you do; it’ll come back later
Much much sooner these days. Who wants to live in this shit show of a world?
I’d say passion is lost when you realize that studying and working your arse off for 20-30 years doesn’t get you anywhere within a corrupt society.
loubylou60 No - I just might be passionate a bit more slowly though
Funnily enough, I'm 54. Still a few more months until I'm 55; I'll let you know then...
No.
Only the best song the Beatles never wrote
Not here
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Uh oh
No.
Oh crap. 2 months to save the planet then...
lost mine by 30
Seeing as I’m about to turn 36, no.
We have much to enjoy in life. Exercise, Nature, works for virtue. However by 54 you know the reality of life: it is just bull shit
Yes. Fa la la la la la la la la
How? When life just that start 40
Nah, 2020 has killed my passion for life and I’ve got several years before I reach 54
So I am fucked
Guardian readers, quite possibly.
My Norwegian wife says “What a lot of rot!
Is it f* I'm gonna smash next year!
Doesn't matter what are you are, we all lost our passion for life this year.
well Im 46 and Im looking
I know it's the age I lost half of my testosterone.
The tweet I saw immediately under this one, in my feed, was by an Italian online music magazine, celebrating today's anniversary of the release, in 1977, of a historic album by the Sex Pistols: Never Mind The Bollocks. Well... exactly: strikes me as the perfect comment to this.
Older! 67 and still raring to go!
54-69 age group, that’s not 54...
Oh sweet summer child, it’s whatever age you turned in 2020.
No!
I don't like to brag but way ahead of schedule
I am pushing 50, but ok. Seems like an ageist generalization.
No. Now please be don’t be so dull. We don’t need this rubbish. J aged 57 almost 58.
BS. It is youngsters today who have no get up and go. They are complacent, screen faced, apathetic and conformist in the main.... where's my Iphone 13? Meh.
If you mean losing enthusiasm for same job after many years, I know some passionless people in their 30s. If you mean that aches and pains increasingly make spontaneity harder, I'd agree - but that's no lack of passion! We followed our passion - and emigrated in our 60s!
Nah that's about 30. Maybe you get it back around 54 🤔
Totally counter-productive WHY?
No, its 41.
No.
I lost my passion for life between 30 and 49,,, got it back when I turned 50....amazing what a new relationship can do for you
