Officials say it is an "exciting time" for Stapleford after the appointment of a contractor to bring plans for a Steven Gerrard Academy one step closer. Plans were first revealed in late 2023 for the former England star to launch a post-16 education centre in partnership with Stapleford Town Football Club.
Many in the town described the plans as the "best thing" to have happened to Stapleford in years when they were first revealed and they have now moved a step closer. Broxtowe Borough Council has confirmed that GEDA has been appointed as the main contractor, with contracts being signed.
Sam Comerie added: "Across all the community projects we're about halfway there, some have mostly been delivered and others we're just entering into delivering now." Other projects include a new and improved library and a safer cycling scheme.
