There is one reason why the Conservatives (on the orders of cummings) want to reduce the number of people that go to university: People with university degrees don't vote for the Tories.

GavinWilliamson admits the Tories got it wrong for ten years! They persisted with the “written off” other 50% for ten years, hyped fees, cut maintenance grants and now blame Blair! Scoundrels!

Looks like Williamson has gone native and is toeing the party elite line. He should be ashamed of himself.

This move must ensure equality of access to HE. But I fear it will morph into something for the privileged only. There are no such equality guarantees promised so it could become us versus them. Not good!

This country needs more vocational training - plumbers, electricians, mechanics, masons, carpenters etc. These trades keep the country going and need to be held in higher social regard.

Ministers to ditch target of 50% of young people in England going to universityEducation secretary sets out plans to abandon target introduced by Tony Blair in 1999 It was nonsense About bloody time. This was yet another useless, needless policy from Blair that led to a generation of cognitive dissonant graduates with degrees in hair dressing or drumming. Universities should be there to sort the intellectual chaff from the wheat.
