Gavin and Stacey star explains why she always thanks Liverpool

The 77-year-old actress has enjoyed a six-decade career on stage and screen. It has seen her grace some of the country’s greatest theatres - winning an Olivier Award for 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' - as well as becoming one of the most recognisable faces on British television, most notably as Essex mum Pam in sitcom 'Gavin and Stacey'.

Asked about what sparked her interest in drama, Alison said: “It was even from when I was a child and I had a little doll, I would play the part of being the mum. Alison remembers her North Liverpool upbringing fondly. She has never forgotten her roots and returns to the city frequently, though this has recently been due to family illness.

"But I've always come back to Liverpool - I've never not come back. When my mum and dad were alive, I used to see them all the time and bring my kids." "I feel for the kids now - the fees are so high. You end up paying for years to pay your fees back, whatever you're studying." "It was revolutionary. I never worked at any other theatre in the country where the director said 'this is where you are, this is what it's about'. It was brilliant.
