Gareth Southgate booed by England fans as team read out ahead of Slovakia clash

England supporters jeered at Gareth Southgate's name as it was announced over the stadium PA system ahead of their last-16 match against Slovakia.

This will be a painfully familiar experience for Southgate, who was booed by dissatisfied fans as he approached the travelling supporters after England's dull goalless draw with Slovenia in their final group stage match. A group of fans also hurled beer cups towards Southgate, who defiantly clapped the fans as they did so, reports the Mirror.

Mainoo's introduction to the midfield marks the third change in England's central park during their campaign in Germany. Gallagher stepped in for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the previous match after the Liverpool ace was relieved from his experimental role following unconvincing performances.
