England boss Southgate believes Qatar workers are ‘united’ for World Cup to go aheadEngland boss Gareth Southgate believes workers in Qatar are unified in their desire for this winter’s World Cup to go ahead.
A report published by The Guardian last year – “categorically” denied by authorities – said 6,500 migrant workers had died in Qatar since it was awarded the World Cup 10 years ago. A statement issued last month on behalf of the Supreme Committee, which is responsible for organising the tournament, read: “The advancements in workers’ welfare is a legacy we are very proud of, and one that we are already seeing in action.
“As an FA we’ve talked to human rights groups about what they would like to see, and we’re trying to support those ideas with compensation for families who have lost workers and a worker’s rights centre,” he said. “So, we’re supporting the things we’ve been asked to support.”
There’s absolutely nothing more those worker lads who are on £200 a month want more than to get the opportunity to watch Harry Kane spend 90 minutes trying to win a penalty from their purpose built, 10 person a room, accommodation under a scorching hot sun.
And how much of those workers were getting their hands dirty doing the actual construction of stadiums and facilities as opposed to those overseeing the construction or just sheparding officials such as himself around
Do we have to flagellate ourselves in front of tyrants so obsequiously?
So they're suffering can end?
Except the dead ones, who weren't able to have their say on the matter
