Gang members chased and killed dad with machetes on busy street

Two gang members who chased and killed a 50-year-old father, who was attacked with machetes and left to die on a busy street, have been jailed for life. Tyrone Hollywood, 17, and 29-year-old Leighton Williams were handed minimum terms of 19 and 29 years respectively after being caught on CCTV as the older man inflicted a fatal chest wound on Kelvin Ward.

Although Mr Ward’s son is thought to have been the original intended victim, the judge added: “This was a planned attack. The defendants were not randomly driving around. They were prepared to use lethal violence.” West Midlands Police released footage of the killing, with the fatal blows edited out, last November, after Williams, of North Roundhay; and Hollywood, of Findon Road; both Birmingham, were convicted of murder.

All four defendants were in the stolen Ford, with Hollywood driving, when it chased and rammed the Corsa, near the junction with Windward Way, shortly before 8pm. Mr Ward’s son then fled as the gang from the Kuga shouted: “Get him now, keep chasing. Kill him, everyone kill him.”
