Gregory was known to his fans as ‘the Funniest Man in America’ Gregory was known for his Southern charm and wry sense of humour, travelling the United States throughout his long career and eventually earning the nickname ‘the Funniest Man in America.’ Gregory, who was born in 1946, was the first member of his family to graduate high school, rising from humble roots to eventually become a mainstay of the American comedy scene.
