ASLEF members are to walk out on tube and rail roles over pay and conditions. Tube services to be disrupted in April and May as drivers stage 24-hour strikes. READ MORE:Commuters across Britain will face two months of travel chaos after both London Underground and train drivers announced strike action set to take place in April and May.
Members of Aslef will walk out on April 8 and May 4, threatening travel misery across the capital, coinciding with rail drivers' plans to hold a rolling programme of one-day walkouts between April 5 and 8, coupled with a six-day ban on overtime. It suggests a coordinated approach from the union to maximise disruption, with a number of high-profile events also scheduled for May 4 including a Peter Kay gig at the O2 and football fixtures at London-based clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea.
On Monday 8 April, strikes will affect Greater Anglia, c2c, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Southeastern, Southern/Gatwick Express, South Western Railway main line and depot drivers, and SWR Island Line. Aslef general secretary Mick Whelan said: 'Last month, when we announced renewed mandates for industrial action, because under the Tories' draconian anti-union laws we have to ballot our members every six months, we called on the train companies, and the Government, to come to the table for meaningful talks to negotiate a new pay deal for train drivers who have not had an increase in salary since 2019.
