From next month, new laws including changes to National Insurance and employment rules will come into effect with the start of the new financial year.
Those aged 21 and 22 will also be included in the higher National Living Wage for the first time which will be set at £11.44 from April 1. Workers on the National Minimum Wage will see a new rate of £8.50 an hour - an increase of almost 15 per cent. He told the House of Commons when announcing the policy: "From April 6, employees National Insurance will be cut by another 2p, from 10% to 8%. And self-employed national insurance will be cut from 8% to 6%.New employment rules From April, workers will be given the right to request flexible working from their employer from day one of their job next year.
From July, employers will be banned from withholding tips under the Employment Act 2023. The Bill makes it unlawful for businesses to hold back service charges from their employees, ensuring staff receive the tips they have earned. The threshold for Child Benefit will also be increased for a single earner from £50,000 to £60,000 before penalties are applied. When announcing the new Child Benefit policy, Mr Hunt said: "I confirm that from this April the high-income child benefit charge threshold will be raised from £50,000 to £60,000.
New car taxes and changes to electric vehicles Vehicle Excise Duty is set to rise from April 1 in line with inflation based on the Retail Price Index - an increase of roughly 6 per cent. A full breakdown of the new rates can be found here.
