The Islamic religious event of Ramadan will begin soon as Muslims around the world begin a month of fasting and reflection.
The annual observance will start on March 11 and continue until April 9 from the sighting of one crescent moon to the next. Ramadan marks the month the Qur'an was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. During daylight hours, Muslims will fast until sunset. During the day, prayers will be observed. As Ramadan is based on the rising and setting of the moon, timings will vary depending on your location. The charity Islamic Relief has provided a full timetable for Ramadan 2024 in Liverpool, which we have included belowIslamic Relief note that the dates for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr are "provisional and will be confirmed upon the sighting of the new moon".
