The final list of candidates has been confirmed for the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner election. Three candidates are standing for the role, with voters across Nottinghamshire heading to the polls on May 2.
The current office holder is Caroline Henry, who is standing to be elected again. The role of Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner was created in 2012 and was held by former Sherwood Labour MP Paddy Tipping until Caroline Henry's election in 2021. PCCs usually serve for four years, but the last election was pushed back due to coronavirus and pushing back the upcoming one would have required a change in legislation. The future of the PCC role in Nottinghamshire is uncertain given the creation of the new East Midlands Combined Combined Authority. The authority will be given £1.14 billion over 30 years, alongside extra powers in areas such as housing and transport.
Other options for the future of policing in both counties could also see directly-elected Police and Crime Commissioners being scrapped. The Police and Crime Commissioners could be replaced by two deputy mayors, one for Nottinghamshire and one for Derbyshire, though these would not be elected. For now, the election for both the East Midlands Mayor and Nottinghamshire PCC will be taking place on May 2. The candidates for Nottinghamshire PCC, in alphabetical order, are:
