I know that our company is bulk buying at around 85 pence per litre for diesel. Add VAT to that and it comes to £1.02 per litre. I would guess retail outlets and certainly Supermarkets may get it a little cheaper? What profit they tend to run for I wouldn’t have a clue.

Ironically he only thinks that because we currently have free trade with nations who price their fossil fuels even lower than us under their true social cost. This disparity will have to be corrected with green tariffs when we leave the EU to maintain our industrial competitivity

I think a large cost of petrol and diesel is the fuel duty

The oil still needs to be processed and refined before it is petrol. That isn't cheap. A littre of Petrol and a litre of bottled water cost the same just now, think about that for a second. Makes the petrol seem like good value

Journalist writes an article on a topic that they don't understand. Shock.

For which country

Obviously. It's one of those rare situations where dropping price wont necessarily increase demand. Besides, this fuel was likely purchased at previous prices and not sold yet.

It's not the price of the raw oil. It's the cost of refining, shipping, tax, and profit that you are paying for.

Was it ever thus?
