Coronavirus: From 'We've shut it down' to 100,000 US dead

The initial period of the US effort against the virus was marked by one significant action in late January, when the president stopped non-American visitors from China entering the United States. That was smart and decisive . But any tactical advantage that had given the administration was squandered in February where there was a month of inaction and incompetence.

If the city was quickly to become the most worrying centre of the outbreak, the borough of Queens became the epicentre of the epicentre - the district where Donald Trump had grown up. And the visuals from there drove home to Americans - and to the president - the scale of the unfolding disaster. At Elmhurst Hospital, refrigerated container lorries were parked to store bodies that the morgue had no way of dealing with.

More than 25,000 of the deaths have come from New York, and New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo became coronavirus's first political superstar. His daily factual and highly detailed presentation of what was happening, where it was happening, what was being done to mitigate, and what still needed to be done became appointment to-view television across the US. Cometh the hour and all that.

The vice president, Mike Pence, had been given the task of heading the coronavirus taskforce. A poison chalice it may have been, but it's a task he's performed with aplomb. He is across the detail of everything, and was the perfect link-person between the different branches of government and the White House; between the different branches of government and the governors of the 50 states. And two other things he did with considerable deftness.

DOCTORING DEATH CERTIFICATES INCREASES NUMBER OF DEATHS...

The anti American pro China Lobby attacking again? US deaths are 3.1% of population UK deaths are 5.4% of population SWEDEN DEATHS ARE 4% OF POPULATION D. Trump did an excellent job and an incredible achievement in logistics never done anywhere else in the world. trump2020

BBCJonSopel Shallow and sensationalist military comparison, when merely two years of drug abuse deaths (and among the young, not the elderly) do more damage than this virus...

Is that 'excess' or all deaths attributed to covid-19? (I know I could check...)

Simply a nation full of dickheads and the biggest one is it’s President!!

According to Ferguson's model, the presidents early actions of banning flights egg has saves 1.9 million lives. Blame CHIYNA and the EU.

The BBC showing its anti American bias, Yet it says nothing about the Chinese communist government

propaganda MakeChinaPay

To be fair, BBC went from 'It's just the flu' and 'it's racist to want to close borders' to '34k deaths' in a similar time frame. Given US is 5 times the population of UK I think US has done well. IF the danger should have been spotted sooner, media dropped the ball too.

Fuck yeah Americans are dying

Kayleigh McEnany praises Trump's coronavirus response as US deaths approach 100,000 – videoThe White House press secretary repeatedly cited a scientific report suggesting up to 2.2 million Americans could die of coronavirus if the government didn't take action to limit the spread of the virus Could have been 2.2 million I hope no one was expecting her to say otherwise. There's being naive and then there's being 'naive'. Should she praise china instead , since the reported number is disproportionately low?
