I'm from Brazil and the collection was calledWhen I came here five years ago, I felt like I was the foreigner until I started exploring and expanding my horizons here so that I started to feel that I was part of this territory as well. Then every time I went back to Brazil, I felt that I was the foreigner there. For that reason, I started exploring Brazil.
I'm working with a new material called Elephant Leaf, like the plant that you cook in Brazil. I'm actually the first designer to launch this, especially on the catwalk. The silk industry in Brazil is the third largest producer of silk in the world with 98% that goes to France and just only 2% stays in the country.
There is waste in that production, so this new company started developing this yarn called primitive yarn, which is basically very very rough. So why not to challenge a material that is raw? And quite rough? See what happens to it.As this is the first collection of my eponymous brand, I based most of the business model around collaboration so I think the biggest challenge was pretty much negotiating all of those collaborations across the world.
