The scheme for free travel for care leavers is aimed at providing a bridge to jobs and services
He said with the average weekly cost of a bus pass now at £18, the scheme was "tremendously important" to help people access jobs and become "economically independent"."There was a lovely story of someone who was homeless and can now access mental health services and is in a much better position," he added."These people can now access services that they couldn't because they simply could not afford the bus fare.

Well, it would be a great decision, finally.
Cornwall only has three buses
How is this free? It's like saying the NHS is free
I'm sure they are. Where do they think the government gets its money from? Taxation. So your 'free' bus tickets aren't free at all. Someone will have their taxies raised to pay for them.
Yippy Caye ... Saves walking - everywhere ! 🤞
You know what would solve the public transportation issue? Be subsidised by car owners, like the road tax including a new car purchase tax on percentage to its cost. You buy rolls Royce, you better pay over 10% just in tax for public transport. Used cars not affected.
It's not free It's taxpayer funded
There is no such thing as 'free'anything. Someone somewhere pays for it.
Say his name! ToomajSalehi. Brave artist and rapper who remained the voice of his people despite all the threats! Now behind closed doors, under sever torture, with no lawyer he is sentenced to death! Our silence is violence! FreeToomaj
Jobcentre used to do this for the unemployed.

Excellent idea .. bring it on nationwide please..
Clickbait headline is very poor from 'Free bus travel' is not the story.
Happy to have my tax money go on anything that reduces car use
100 yards from a main A road and we get a bus only on a Thursday. Couldn't give a toss whether free or not. Would just like to see more than one a week !
Unless the buses were built and maintained for free, run on free fuel and the drivers are volunteers, it ain't 'free'. Somebody is paying for it.
Stealing £5 from tax victims to fund a £3 bus journey is just plain stupid.
'funded by the government' = funded by the taxpayer
The BIASED BROADCASTING CORPORATION as usual focusing on spending. Never ever asks who pays
