Four natural repellents that will keep foxes and cats out of your garden

As the weather is expected to improve in Scotland in the coming weeks, people will be spending more time out and about in their garden.

Foxes and cats can damage your lawn, flowers and plants as they use all of your hard work in the garden as their personal toilet. Fox poo and urine smells awful and contains a lot of nasty germs, which makes it a particular worry for those with children and pets. Ground or cayenne pepper Any type of pepper can repel these pests as they don't like the smell it gives off. One Facebook user wrote: "Put ground pepper where they do their business. It works, keeps them away."

One said: "Gross but works. I have my teenage boy wee in the garden once a week - no cats or foxes. They don’t like the smell." One person suggested: "Scatter a few tea bags around your garden. The strong scent will keep them from coming back." White vinegar contains acetic acid which carries a strong, potent smell - that cats and foxes both don't like. People are usually advised to spray it around their garden, or use a cloth or bowl of the stuff.
