Former Manchester City starlet Brandon Barker , who once outplayed Trent Alexander-Arnold, is now seeking a new club having been released by Morecambe.
In an interview on Liverpool's YouTube channel, when asked about a player who didn't quite reach their potential, Alexander-Arnold recalled that torrid afternoon against City's young guns. "I would say Brandon Barker, played for City," he admitted. "I was playing for the Under-21s, first-ever time at Anfield, got beat 3-0. He scored two and got an assist. I came off at 60 .
Even though Alexander-Arnold's memory is slightly skewed - Barker found the net once and claimed two assists - his sentiment remains the same. Since then, their pathways have been markedly different. While Alexander-Arnold is likely to be part of the England squad for Euro 2024, the former City forward is searching for his next move.
A decade ago, Barker's future seemed bright as he was crowned City's academy player of the year. However, the promising star found the transition to the first team challenging, making only a single appearance for his boyhood club. After stints at Rotherham United and Preston, as well as NAC Breda and Hibernian, he secured a permanent transfer to Rangers in 2019.
