Wesley Fofana experienced delight and huge disappointment in quick succession during Chelsea’s Champions League clash against AC Milan.
The French defender, who joined the Blues from Leicester in a £70million deal this summer, scored his first goal for his new club to break the deadlock at Stamford Bridge. But sadly had to leave the match early with a worrying looking injury Thiago Silva had a header from a corner saved by Ciprian Tatarusanu a scramble in the box followed with Fofana tucking away the loose ball from close range on 24 minutes.
But just 14 minutes later Fofana’s joy turned to despair as he hobbled off with a worrying looking knee injury. It came in rather innocuous circumstances as Fofana landed awkwardly following a fair challenge from Milan midfielder Rafael Leao.Chelsea have been good value for their lead with Silva having a number of efforts saved, while Raheem Sterling missed the chance to pull the trigger when played through on goal. Mason Mount also had a goal disallowed for offside.
However, they were nearly pegged back in the final moments of the first half as Kepa Arrizabalaga denied Charles De Ketelaere before Rade Krunic skied the rebound with the goal gaping. He missed a large chunk of last season with a fractured fibula
Understandable after being out for so long and desperate to become a key player for The Chels.
