First-time buyers save £18,000 house deposit in two years by living in a studio flat and giving up booze

MANY newlywed couples have to choose between marriage and buying a home - but Ben and Holly Fox did both just two days apart.

They gave up their rented three-bed terraced house in Leeds city centre for a studio flat – saving them almost £200 a month in rent. Ben was almost £1,000 into his overdraft when he met Holly while the pair studied Zoology and English with Social Policy at the University of Leeds in February 2015. Any additional money went into a regular Isa account and was put towards their wedding, of which they had a budget of £1,000, or for the legal costs of getting a mortgage such as solicitor fees.The couple told us their kitchen has a very 70s feel and said the tiles left by the previous owner will be goingThe kitchen is the next big project for Ben and Holly and they've set aside some money to do it up top to bottomas the pair talk us through married life in their first property.

We weren't the world's biggest drinkers before which made it easier - maybe a couple of drinks on a weekend and a few beers or ciders in the fridge.Before we’d stop ourselves spending over budget but now we’ve got a bit more room to buy slightly nicer things if we want.Holly is really into her arts and craft so she has been able to splash a little bit more on some new supplies and I'm a gamer so now I like to spend my money on new games for the Nintendo switch.

No one cares about them saving £18k. That isn’t hard if you work full time.
