If you can not understand the signs then you should not be on the road until you can.

Awesome, sticking the finger to the system curtesy of an education.

This is news? Really?

All this proves is you don’t need a brain to pass your driving test in this country. All looks perfectly obvious to me, just pay attention when driving!

Good on him! buses legalbattle roadsafety

Sounds like a money making exercise to me. I'm surprised more councils don't do something similar. suffolkcc IpswichGov Dogs Head Street in Ipswich would be a good place to start since no one takes any notice of the No Entry signs.

Will they refund the 1.5 million pounds to the other 54000 drivers, Nope.

I won an appeal at this same Bus Gate at the start of last year, contacted a bunch of news agencies. No one was interested👌😂

Cos of brexit BBC ?

i guess you could say if you cant take in the signage perhaps you need to go a bit slower to absorb it all. Or there could just be too many signs.

DANGER - Grayling controls this road.

Ohhh dear. By the time that a driver encounters the '5 foot lettering ' they are being photographed. So Council saying that this is a help for unfortunate drivers is bollux!

Council could take a leaf out of GoUltraLowNottm book and make the lane accessible to proper ULEVs. 100% battery.

Not familiar with this area, but from the photo top of the article alone, my understating is that the lack of an 'only' plate underneath the blue bus/bike/taxi roundel means it's not a route that disallows cars.

Sign in light blue & white might not be easily readible from a distance of even a few meters. It'd b better to have Navy blue color print on a white background. How can u hav a light colour on a light background for signs? Itll reflect more light too hence won't b easily readable

The quote from a fellow Council employee talks about painting big Bus Lane sign on the road...that's not that clear from photo certainly if you didn't know the roads....

Will they be refunding the other 54,000 drivers who got fined?

Looks clear enough to me.

It genuinely could not be any clearer using current prescribed legislation. First it was not enough signs, now it’s too many and big white letters on the road. What worries me is I have to share the road space in this city on a daily basis with drivers who can’t read sign...😬

It's quite obvious. If you can't cope you shouldn't be driving.

Oxford is the same. I used to deliver to some shops in town, and because it is basically buses only in that area, to get to delivery areas was horrendous, with NO real signage to direct you, just loads of bus only signs.

The term ‘gate’ is misleading. As you’re looking for a physical gate or barrier. That should be illegal

lizzymaryjones today's news lovely x

This needs to happen in Manchester, the bus gate areas are a joke ManCityCouncil

We have similar Taunton. By the time you realsie what it is it’s too late. No entry would suffice but nope they hide it behind other wording to catch you out.

A large sign saying 'No entry for cars' or just ' No cars' would do the job. But that would not be as financially rewarding for the civic purse.

if you copy this in to google maps you can see it for yourself 51.736255, 0.468485

Too much information on my dash, your honour, my brain was confused and for that reason I was doing 95mph on the M40.......

The psychologist who had received the fine and also produced 'evidence' to support her theory could not be impartial and therefore could have subconsciously skewed her results.

I only speak American and I comprehend how that works.

The bus don't come anyway

I've had to pay this fine for both my sons. Not because they are easily confused but because they are terrible drivers

I've never even heard of the term 'bus gate' they are usually just referred to as bus lanes aren't they?

crikey what s sh1thole

Do those drives have any brains? I find this article confusing.

Does this mean council will have to reimburse all those that have been fined because one person stood up against the council has win - Congratulations

and Brexit's not arrived yet lol!
