Russia has beaten out the US to become the first country to film a movie in space

A Russian film crew returned to Earth today after shooting the first-ever movie in space.

The filmmakers spent 12 days filming Challenge at the International Space Station after rocketing up on October 5.to film a project with the help of Nasa and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.Challenge will see surgeon, played by Yulia Peresild, race to the space station to save a crew member who needs an urgent operation in orbit.

While the Russian shoot was a success, it came with its challenges – with the ISS unexpectedly tilting after a glitch in its thrusters on Friday.The Soyuz MS-18 reentry capsule makes a landing in steppes southeast of Jezkazgan The capsule landed after a three-and-a-half-hour journey back to Earth A Soyuz space capsule landed in Kazakhstan on schedule after a three-and-a-half-hour journey on Sunday morning.

Peresild said she felt sad the expedition was done, adding: ‘It seemed that 12 days would be a lot, but I did not want to leave when everything was over.’ Oleg Novitskiy, who stars as the ailing cosmonaut in the movie, spent more than six months aboard the space station.More scenes will be shot on Earth for the movie, which is yet to be given a release date.The filmmakers were checked over by a medical team when they landed
