Ferrari wants the FIA to impose 'maximum penalties' should any F1 team be found to have exceeded the cost cap last year.

Ferrari has urged the FIA to impose"maximum penalties" on any Formula 1 team that is found to have breached the sport’s cost cap rules.that will confirm which teams were under last year’s circa $145 million limit and which outfits went over.

However, subsequent clarifications from the FIA about areas that should and should not be included in the cost cap are understood to be central to suggestions that the squad may have been tipped over. “We regard this as something very serious and we expect the FIA to manage the situation in exemplary fashion.

Mekies said that beyond the significance of judgements on the individual case, how the process played out from here was vital in helping teams understand the limits of the cost cap. “But as I mentioned, the most important thing, for which we expect the maximum severity and maximum transparency, is that the overspend is confirmed, as are the rules under which we must all race.”

Ferrari should shut up. The penaltys for Fuel gate were minimal. And still we are talking about an alleged breach, people. Alleged. ALLEGED.

Absolutely. If proven to be true, whichever team it might be, the penalty must be harsh. If the FIA is lenient on this, then every team with the resources will spend whatever they want.

It should be if any team exceeds the budget cap, even by a small amount, they get the same penalty as someone who spends 50% extra. You don’t see the doping board telling athletes “well you only had a little bit in you so here’s a naughty wrist slap”. No. They get the same

I would so laugh if it turns out that Ferrari broke the budget cap and not RB like the rumours say. It would be so typically Ferrari to shoot themselves in the foot

What happens to the penalty money? Does it get redistributed to teams based upon historical significance?

Well i dont get whats the point of having a cost-cap if they dont have max penalties. Like that advantage is enormous and can last years… this will be extremely telling

Music to the Ears 😎

Depends if it was planned or not. If there was actually a breach, they should apply the penalties that were decided at the start of the season in question. If it was a « test » season for thé regulations, then they can’t do anything. From now on, sportive sanctions are to plan

And what about maximum penalties when they run an illegal engine for half of the races? Double standards

Ferrari is mad, eh ? Lets see what the team with apparent veto powers can do here

share some things about 2019 engine aswell

If anyone has breached the cap rules then I suspect it will be covered up similar to how the Ferrari engine situation was covered up or ironically it'll only be a financial penalty

Horner need the Flavio Briatore treatment...

Absolutely agree. The advantages from overspending in 2021 will continue into 2023. A highly illegal and unfair advantage.

And I want the full report of their deal with the FIA about that 2019 engine!

Personally not convinced anything has actually happened. Probably some clever accounting has taken place which will result in a clamp down in future. But if there is a breach of the cap it needs to be a harsh punishment. Otherwise might as well not bother

Its time to make FIA-Ferrari engine cheater deal from 2019 public!

Getting other teams punished to hide their incompetance

imagine it’s them wouldn’t be surprised

Wolff: FIA must take "robust stance" if F1 teams broke budget capToto Wolff says the FIA should take a robust stance and show 'integrity and leadership' if F1 teams are proven to have busted the 2021 budget cap. Here's what the Mercedes boss said ⬇️ They just want the title no matter how. Let's be honest, F1 is a sport where teams always have balanced on the border of rules, and always with half a foot on the illegal side. Mercedes copied papers from Ferrari, Ferrari triggered fuel supply, and others might have spent more. The original story by GdS and Auto, Motor und Sport suggests that RedBull was 4 or 5 million dollars over the limit, which is a minor and falls below the 5% limit. Why this British (!) reporter has to suggest that it's over 5%..well...guess I answered my own question. Christian Horner says that Red Bull's submission to the FIA was below the F1 cost cap ⬇️
