A SENIOR British doctor is feared dead after going missing during a hike in the French Alps.
Dr Robert Bailey, 63, did not return to his hotel in Chamonix last Thursday after setting out for a trek up a mountain pass.The doc, said to be diabetic, is head of end of life care at the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Clinical Commissioning Group. Its chairman Dr Gary Howsam said: “Sadly we can confirm that Dr Bailey, who was on holiday with his family, has been reported by the French police as missing, presumed dead.Dr Bailey, also a senior partner at Peterborough’s Minster Medical Practice, was hiking up the Col de la Forclaz pass but the mountain rescue service has found no sign of him.
Tourist website Planet Chamonix, which describes itself as “the guide to all things Chamonix”, has put an appeal for sightings.The doc joined his practice in April 1990, became senior partner in October 2009 and specialises in palliative care, diabetes, cancer and minor surgery.
