Families, schools, celebs and local businesses across Merseyside are fighting to reopen a vital 'sanctuary' for children and young people with special educational needs .
However, there is now a campaign to rebuild the playground and raise the funds to create a safe space for play and recreation for local kids. It is hoped the project to rebuild the park will foster a sense of belonging and acceptance for students, their families and in the wider community - providing them with a safe and accessible area where they can learn, grow and socialise together.
One student we spoke to is Alex Connerty who had a big smile on his face because he just won a Lamborghini ride to chauffeur him to the school's upcoming prom. Alex has used the RAP since he started at Rowan Park and enjoys getting together with his classmates to hang out and have fun. He is now helping to spearhead the fundraising campaign to get the park refurbished and re-opened.
"For families it means they can come and relax, host parties, meet friends and know that everyone in the park is like-minded. It takes such a huge pressure off them because it means they're not excluded and know that everyone there understands their children.
