General election 2019: Facebook bans Tory ad over BBC footage

Facebook has deleted a Conservative election ad that used BBC News footage because it infringed the corporation's intellectual property rights.

The BBC said the material had been used out of context in a way that"could damage perceptions of our impartiality".The BBC also complained to Facebook, which has now deleted the ad.In a statement, Facebook said:"We have removed this content following a valid intellectual property claim from the rights holder, the BBC.

"Whenever we receive valid IP claims against content on the platform, in advertising or elsewhere, we act in accordance with our policies and take action as required."Three clips of BBC reporters or presenters - political editor Laura Kuenssberg, News at Ten presenter Huw Edwards and political correspondent Jonathan Blake - speaking in recent broadcasts about Brexit delays were used in the ad.

The clips were edited into a montage of protest footage and video of debate in the House of Commons, all set to dramatic music. When it rejected the BBC's initial request to stop running the ads, the Conservative Party said it was"clear the footage was not edited in a manner that misleads or changes the reporting".

But the biased BBC took no action when Labour did the same thing.

More lies from LiarJohnson - who can believe or support him? As a (near) lifelong conservative voter I cannot!

Facny having their own party political broadcaster banned.

I bet we'll just see this channeled into another non officially funded Tory Facebook ads. It's what these people do. It shouldn't be in Facebook's power to choose this, no electoral ads should be able to be targeted on the platform by law so everything is out in the public sphere

After the Tory party offered bribes to Brexit Party candidates we all know they are corrupt. Such a great pity we will probably have another corrupt Tory party running our country. Vote for the Brexit Party and we will keep them to their promises. It's the only way to get Brexit.

BBCPolitics They constantly talk about adverts on social media but the only ones I've seen are pro-remain kinda shite.

Every commentator editor and producer at the beeb is remain which suggests they’re biased towards Brexit? Not impartial at all! The sooner the licence is scrapped the better?

nulasuchet Has the BBC grown a tooth...?

Don't just call this out on twitter with limited audience. Put it on your news programs along with all the other propergander they are spinning.

Oh dear - just goes to show, if you fly with the crows, you get shot with the crows. BBCBias BBCBiasAndLies LyingTories

Has Nick Clegg - Vice-President, Global Affairs and Communications at Facebook - given you a quote for the article?

Gate shut 🐎 bolted

Well the damage is already done, Tories will do it again and again

The bbc is failing and is biased. The people had enough

BBC so biased it’s shameful

Now perhaps the BBC will turn its attention to its own staff?

The BBC should sue the Tory party for libel and misrepresentation, instead of sitting there like a load of wet wallies. Mind you, with a very few exceptions, the Tories have crawled over them with their bad manners and shouting out complete rubbish. Much of it not challenged. Why
