Many of the genuine homeless I've come across in London do not beg for either money or food. They are the ones I have a lot of compassion for. If their lives were not difficult enough, they are often saddled with physical &/or mental disabilities.
I fail to see the point of this exercise - is the implication that the homeless/people who beg should be suffering/shouldn't be enterprising? How does he know his experience/that of those he spoke to mirrors that of everyone?

i've stopped giving.
That's why I don't give to beggars. Spoke to one recently who said he receives around £100 a day if he doesn't ask and more if he begs. Also given mcdonalds coffees and other snacks.
There are two types of homeless person? One that sales the big issue whilst having a Samsung S10+ in their back pocket and the mentally ill ex soldier with a drink drug problem, that will be found dead laying in their own urine in a frozen stairwell

A lot of people seem to be missing the obvious point which is of course that many beggars make a reasonable living while others need support, which is why giving to homeless charities with gift aid will make sure your donation has more impact

Disgraceful attitude towards people who are down and out, there is a difference between professional beggars and genuine homeless, and that is beggers go home at the end of the day but homeless have to spend a night in freezing temperatures on the street.
At the end of the day, giving a bit of money to the homeless doesn't help them. If all they needed was some money then they wouldn't have ended up homeless in the first place in 99% of cases. Most homeless people are through poor choices, those choices don't suddenly get better

This article says more about how compassionate some of us can be than anything else. That is something to be proud of imo. To compliment this, homeless people should be given advice on how to put that towards getting more permanent accommodations and setting up for a future.

Brits are very generous I needed a drink on train but it was too expensive man next to me never met bought me one another gave me ten pounds another put a pound coin in a carrier for my cases. That was in few days .very kind.
