Andrew Hansler's favourite pastime was climbing and he was at the front of a climbing club walk when he fell

Tributes have been paid to an avid climber who died in Great Langdale while doing the thing he loved most in January this year.

"He worked as a technician for Hewlett Packard and in roles with HM Revenue and Customs. He completed Iron Man competitions in Lanzarote, ran marathons and endurance trails. Climbing was his main passion, he loved everything from winter climbing to bouldering." "I have been told he was pronounced dead at 11.38am. The friends said he was leading the way and suddenly just fell. He made no attempt to reach out and made no noise."

He said: "He is an experienced climber and I have been away climbing with him many times over the last 20 years. On my many trips and climbs with Andy, he has always been a responsible person and has experience on many types of terrain. Andy was out with three others walking that day, members of the group called the mountain rescue team and within a short time, the Great North Air Ambulance arrived and confirmed he had died. Mountain Rescue Team members arrived a short time later and took Andy's body away.

"Andy was also the friend of many people and it is clear that his loss will be felt for many years to come. Andy was clearly a very fit individual, he had completed in Iron Man competitions and ran marathons but climbing was his passion.
