Alexandra Smith used her CPR training for the first time to save a dad’s life after she found him lying unconscious on the road
Now the father-of-three’s family have called Alexandra, of Warrington, Cheshire, their ‘guardian angel’ after he suffered a cardiac arrest while on a bike ride with his cycling group and got left behind. Alexandra was horrified when bystanders said they hadn’t called an ambulance for the cyclist who wasn’t breathing
‘One of his lenses had shattered – I could see one eye and it was just staring. I was looking at his face during it thinking, “come on, come on”.’ Alexandra said: ‘The relief when he started breathing was something I’d never felt before, I can’t even explain, it was so surreal.But the days after were agonising for Alexandra who couldn’t eat or sleep not knowing whether Martin had survived, or whether she would ever find out.
Alexandra said she couldn’t eat or sleep until she received a call from Martin’s wife to say her husband had survived and was recovering well
